Fed up of searching small information in big packet capture file?

I usually face this problem where I need to find for some information in a very huge file. And, it takes lot of time to filter and show the results.
Now, I got different kind of problem, but, similar. Customer sent set of capture files, around 80, each of 25MB (looks like, he knows that opening a big file and debugging using it is very frustrating). Just thought of using some command lines and there are some already.
We can use tcpdump over a network packet capture file like tcpdump -r filename and we can apply filters using -R. Filter is similar to that of wireshark, but not same.
Something like 'tcpdump -r output.cap$i host 10.240.111.29 and host 10.240.115.55 and port 80 and port 16876 >> filteredData'.
Even Wireshark have command line tool. Hadn't explored yet.

Facing problems with firefox

Last few months, I was facing different kind of issues with firefox. History navigation (back, forward) buttons won't appear. History of urls accessed won't get saved. Cannot bookmark pages, search box on the left side doesn't work. Reason looks to be corrupted database files in the mozilla profile directory. In Linux, it will be $HOME/.mozilla/firefox//.
Close all browser instances, remove the files like places.sqlite (for navigation, bookmarks not working), formhistory.sqlite, search.json, search.sqlite (if search bar is not working). Hopefully, things works fine. If still not, create new profile and start using that.

GCC

"/usr/lib/gcc/i586-suse-linux/4.3/collect2 --verbose" gives us good data while using gcc for compilation. gcc tries to find lib*.so but not lib*.so.* during linking. This is same as /usr/bin/ld.

editcap

vim, less and any other file manipulation commands take lot of time to load or search in very big files and so we use split such big files into small to analyze them.
Similarly, we used to face problems in analyzing network packets captured files. To cut the files or to filter some packets from the network traces captured files, you can use editcap. Its command line oriented provided along with ethereal/wireshark.
Also, there are few perl scripts available in Internet which are based on libpcap. I yet to install and try that. Looks like that give us more control in filtering the packets.
If some one know or have idea about using libpcap, share it with us.

IndianRail - Frustration

I booked a tatkal rail ticket from the counter thinking that
- there will be more quota at the counter
- if the ticket is in waiting list, this ticket will be given preference compared to eticket.
I'm sure about second point, but not sure about first point.
But, now, I lost the ticket. I have the PNR number, Xerox copy, photo ID card and so approached counter to take the duplicate ticket.
Here, to provide a duplicate ticket, they are charging half the ticket fare. Its too huge penalty just to print a ticket. They are sucking the blood.
This was for my wife - so I just paid the money and took the ticket in order not for any problem for her during travel. If it was for my travel, I should have just took the xerox copy and the photo ID card.
So, if any one face this problem and ready to fight with TC, take these and say you lost the ticket while climbing the train.
Can any one help me in complaining about the huge penalty for duplicate ticket?

Issue with union

Recently, found the union in the 'C' code with 33 bits as a structure and an unsigned long as members.
There will be no problem in the memory allocation. But, what might be the problem with this type of data structure?
Issue we had was the union variable initialization. Usually, the unsigned long variable in union will be initialized to intialize the bits in structure. But, being 33 bits, one bit won't be initialized. A learning we had!!

- Integration with openId. Blogger provides you an openId url which can be used for authentication against any openId enabled web sites.

RaahuKaalam calculation

Recently found an interesting article how to calculate Raahukaalam. It depends on the Sunrise and sunset in that area on that day. (Sunset-sunrise) is the day and it is divided into 8 parts. Each part is called period and Raahukaalam comes in one of the periods in a day. There is no Rahu Kalam during the first period of any weekday. On Monday it falls on the 2nd period, Saturday 3rd period, Friday 4th period, Wednesday 5th period, Thursday 6th period, Tuesday 7th period & Sunday 8th period.

Scheduling work in multithreaded environment

Its always better to schedule any work at the end of the thread execution as the scheduled work can delete the object all together.
Consider a scenario like
fn Query::readData()

getData();
if(m_readDataSize > 0)
...
}
Query object needs some data to evaluate and thus called getData(). But, this getData() can do scheduling to read more data or may place the already read data size in m_readDataSize or it can schedule work to delete the object because of any error case like improper query.
And, if so, there is chance of code getting crashed while accessing m_readDataSize as object might got deleted if the work got scheduled and executed before returning from this function call. So, better is to mark the work to be scheduled and schedule it at the end of the thread execution, say, something like thread->postWork().
With this in view, I always like the OSs which are single threaded like Netware. It gives the better performance, flexibility in using CPU, ease in programming (Ofcourse, it have its own challenges like yielding.)

ssh auto login script

Finding the script for ssh auto login is not at all difficult. Thinking that, I hadn't stored the link that I found as useful. Later when I tried to get that link, it took me some 10 mins to get the same link, and so, thought of blogging it.

Drinking juice made of papaya tree leaves makes blood platelets count shootup much much faster. My friend was suffering from dengue fever and his blood platelets count had dropped close to critical. He was administered platelets(which is an expensive process too) but it was not working much. His family members searched on internet and found that papaya leaves juice will help a lotttttt. He was given that and even doctors in Apollo were surprised to see the result. The taste of the juice will be highly bitter so just mix lemon juice with it to have a better taste. Doctors were taking his blood samples every 4hrs to see the effect and after taking 5teaspoon full of the juice, it was doing wonders.

After installing VMWare workstation 7 on SLES, we can create or open existing virtual machines. But, once you reboot the SLES and try to load existing virtual machines (which previously loaded), it throws error saying "Unable to find /dev/vmmon" module.
Do the following steps:
mv /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary.old
vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

The reason is:
VMware comes with some pre-built binaries which somehow don't work on SLES. So we are deleting them, and by running that tool they are built again, this time for this OS.

Wireless issue

You are in Windows and using your wireless connection. If you hibernate / suspend and switch it on again, wireless won't work. When you try to "View Available Connections", it says "Some other application is controlling and so, cannot be displayed" type of message.

Finally, MegaStar Chiranjeevi released the news to press that he is entering politics. He is going to create new type of politics in Andhra i.e., positive politics. Hoping he will get support and do some good work. He is saying that
"Present politicians are doing good but he feels that its not reaching the poor and poor becoming poorer and rich becoming richer." Isn't this show positive politics? Usually, in the politics, we observe one party saying bad about other parties.

Went to attend a marriage in Andhra last week.. I was feeling lonely and fear also, as suddenly, I was alone, where as usually, surrounded with lot of people. Nothing to worry, I can manage. But, once I reached that station in marriage place, I got lot of energy as that was the place I used to stay alone through out the night waiting for dawn to catch bus. So, this trip became my eye opener and made me to collect those memories and made me to remember my work.

My experiments with vmware.

Tried vmware on SLES 9 SP3 (no one on this earth might be using that as their desktop). I know I'm weird as my box disk usage at 98% utilization and having very poor work environment. vmware is working if I have one bridge configured on one physical ethernet card. When I try configuring bridges on multiple cards, it works, but, once I restart the vmware or the box, I'm losing those bridges. But, ps -aef was showing me somethings regarding vmnet-bridge. With the help of my friends at office, found that ifconfig doesn't show the bridge networks and ps -aef only shows the bridge networks. Done lot of junk by uninstalling and installing rpms, changing some files and all, so finally, it moved into a state where I can't install or uninstall the rpms.
Finally, found that SLES 9 SP3 have issues with vmware.
So, just rebooted into my SLED 10 partition which I installed a year ago (and upto now, I was using this partition as my data server) and tried my luck there with vmware. Here, I'm not able to activate both of my network cards at a time. It is allowing me to have only one active card and now working with only bridge.

Attended a conference called SmartTechie Startup some time last week.. (Friend told me about this and finally ditched also.. I guess these 2 words goes as synonyms.. Had a similar ditching experience with different fellow in the same week) Conference was a nice, informative one.. ofcourse its boring also. You get lot of funda and you will get sleep and I slept after lunch :) In the morning, there were some sessions and a closing session keynote was from RK Misra the "Lead India" programme winner. There was a session on Cloud Computing by an Amazon guy. He explained what it is and why and all stuff. One point worth mentioning here is - "Can you see the big elephant in the room?". He wants to say that there are lot of things that need to be done between making the product and giving it to customers like the estimation for the infrastructure needed including servers, storage area etc and having the ability to scale as users increases. In the closing keynote session, RK Misra stated the keynotes with his career and explained what all the startups, initiatives he made. He used the trailers idea from US to make a mobile house in Japan and became a overnight celebrity and case study for those who want to do business in Japan. Then, he started a company in telecom domain in India when everyone was in the Y2K and outsourcing technology. He made a successful exit from both of them. As a CEO, he needs to travel through out world and he faced problems in air tickets reservation, and this made him to start a air ticket booking website and he was one of the very few who made these attempts and became hit. He planned his life to take retirement at 40 and he done that. Now, he is in socio-political world. He arranged many meetings between business and political people to help public and made many successful mantras. He started a plan in Rajasthan, with the help of this business and political people, that helped villagers to increase their monthly income. He gathered the students who failed in 10th and +2 level and arranged for them coaching as security gaurds, BPOs etc that showed them a bread earning way. He started the website changeindia.in. His message was to be socio-aware entrepreneurs.
In the afternoon, there was a open discussion forum which included a panel with big shots from HP, Infosys, Dell and Yahoo. This was very informative. Slept in the starting and the topic at the time I woke up was - when we need to go to change CEO? and this triggered - do we really agree to have some one who have completely different ideas from founders? Then, next one was - are the today's entrepreneurs ready for the the second challenge once their startup becomes hit? Infosys guy (sorry, I don't remember the name :( ) is one of the founder of Infosys and a close friend of Narayana Murthy shared his experience. In 1989, they went through the phase where they thought to sell the Infosys. In the room, when all the other founders present along with Narayana Murthy, were discussing this and everyone agreed to sell it, as they were not able to continue it. Narayana Murthy told them that he will buy their shares and that made his other friends to be with him, worked a lot, chalked out a plan to go to IPO in 1992. They executed the plan and made to IPO in 1993. Very inspiring one right!! Discussion was going in the lines how the response came from the audience. One more worthy point here is - There is no need for foreigners to invent in food, education, energy areas as they are very much self sufficient of these things and it is us who are facing problem with these and we are the one to invent solutions for these problems. So, instead of providing solution for a problem having a view of a customer whom you doesn't know and doesn't have clear idea, invent the solutions for the problems where you know the customer (end uses) and the people get benefit from that. Here, they were mentioning the mChek idea from Airtel as the Best one. They closed the discussion with the question to panel "What they are expecting can grow in coming future?" Responses were - 1. Development in food, energy, education areas (and I forgot one more area) 2. As mobiles became part of every ones' life now a days, solutions from that angle 3. Information/data analysis (I guess this is something to do with data mining, statistics, pattern recognition etc where lot of banks, stock market people do this)

My mobile's gprs not working since a week.. Called the airtel helpline and that guy asked my mobile type and told me to restart my mobile.. I was thinking that if it works then everything needs restart to work like the way my product needs.. And also it looks like this guy attended many customer calls like this and should have given them this solution.. This guy's work resembles mine where i need to solve lot of customers issues.. With all these thoughts i restarted my mobile and to my surprise its working.. So guys restart your boxes if u face any issues.. and i guess u guys can expect how im blogging this post.. and one more thing here is browsing through airtel connection is free.. Went to Greeting shop to get one for the colleague who leaving the office. Went through some GoodBye cards, Best Wishes cards etc.. There are type of cards which express Best Wishes for Future, some saying Fare Well with Missing U feeling and many such.. When I was going through them, I was in the feeling like when I leave and if some one gives these type of cards, how I will be feeling.. It was very very difficult.. They are so well written that you can get almost all type of cards with the feelings you want to express..
Found some other cards saying "Do well in the coming examinations, All the Best for preparation" etc.. Again went into imagination like what happens if I give to some one or some one gives to me like these type of cards.. Its really different feeling.. Will that really give the motivation to the receiving end? I guess so..
Ok.. I was searching for something which have Best Wishes along with the Fare Well message with Missing U feeling.. Finally found one superb one..
Went to get a gift too.. Oh God, there are so many varieties of gifts. People are really innovative. And what a time pass also.. Once in a while, doing window watching will be really good..

Kamal Hasan's latest movie "Dasavatara" to get released.. an ultimate actor who do different roles and who try to have variety in his movies and do lot of experiments.
In an awards ceremony recently, when Chiranjeevi was receiving his 7th Nandi award and when he got his PadmaBhushana award, he mentioned that this 7th Nandi award to him have its own importance. In the starting days of Chiru's career, he saw awards ceremony where Kamal was receiving his 14th Nandi Award and Chiru thought that when can he become a great actor like Kamal and when can he reach this 14th Nandi award. So, by receiving this 7th Nandi award, he is on his way and reached half the way that Kamal reached some 15 years ago. Doesn't that show what a great actor Kamal is and what a down to earth mentality of Chiru's. Both are great :)
There are many movies from Kamal which are like benchmarks in the industry.
Saw some function of this Dasavatar where Jackie Chan came and the trailer is really great. Eagerly waiting for this movie to come..

Learning is never ending process..

Learned lot of things in last few days.. After seeing puts blog, remembered about going to swimming and having fun.. But i finally ended up in learning swimming.. I went with my fnd and i thought that i can learn it on own and i went alone next time.. For my surprise im able to swim.. Thats my first experience me floating on water.. It was really amazing and i love that moment and its thrilling too as i learnt alone.. I always used to feel jealous wen i c some1 swimming.. Now i can have fun if i go for falls or river or c area for trip.. When i told this to my parents, they are afraid and took my words that i will go and learn in the swimming batch or will be accompanied by fnd who knows swimming..
One more learning is regarding business.. Mind is doing rounds in business world.. Met some experienced guys and learned things there.. Imp thing for any business is finding out the critical points in it..
Professionalism.. I usually dont bother about things that happen to me.. But im losing the things and not receiving the things or chances that need to be received.. So i will try to balance professionalism with my usual way of being kid as it have the fun in it..
My fnds r poor souls on this earth.. I irritate them a lot.. First i got hurt when 1 said that to me but thats actually right and i learned that point..
Paying bills at correct time.. Internet connection at home got cut last week.. Blogging this thru my mobile..
And another regarding companies scrapping the projects.. Project that im working on got scrapped.. First got angry but after knowing the junk reasons behind it, got cooled.. Learnt that, in life these r usual.. And one more sad point here is my teammate is leaving job here..
And many more moments of fun,joy, pressures and sad things in last 10 days..

Overcame of my fear

Everyone might have fear that when they fall from bike, they will have lot of problems, injuries and all etc etc.. 'm sure that if you fall once, then, you won't have that fear. And also, if you hadn't fallen, then, you missed some sort of enjoyment. At the time of falling, you can see lot of images/scenes going through your mind. So, enjoy having a fall from bike, but, make sure that it is not very serious one and it doesn't hurt you very seriously.

Loading Windows XP

I found it as 4. But, I guess there are only 3. By the time, I see the end one and the front one, it is moved by one and that may be the reason I feel it as 4. Illusion?!

Human Chain

Found some mobile number on a bus mentioning to contact that number for part time job and in that, it is also mentioned that the job is not regarding marketing. For my friend's need for part time job, I called that number and that guy told me to meet him at Indiranagar on Sunday 11AM. I guessed that part time job means it should be some documentation or some excel work or something else. I think others also might guess in the same way.
I met that person at Indiranagar. Many people were there, where one person is explaining something to a group of 3 or 4 people. He started explaining me about this. He started saying - what is success, how to achieve it and some Rajinikanth, Sachin examples, how they became great people and blah blah blah.. He told that we need to register for this part time job by paying some 5K and take the teaching kit from him to learn how to get success and recommend friends, relatives or someone to take this. We can recommend this kit as this will be useful for every one to improve themselves and they will join also as this is helpful for them. If the person we recommended joins and takes the kit, we will get some money around Rs.900/-. If any person they recommends joins, we will get some money. This way we can earn more money. He said many things drawing some quadrants and all junk and blah blah..
He himself is not settled in his life and he himself not achieved anything in his life and he is suggesting/advising others to achieve it. He is just bluffing others.
Sad point here is many innocent people gets trapped in this. Many like those who are studying and try to do money in part time, those who come in search of job, many middle class people who doesn't have money more than needed for their daily needs and many such. Here people are trying to achieve success with out any work.
I thought of this a lot. People are really so selfish that they can bluff others. Why can't they use this intelligence in doing good things? If they follow the same procedure of doing Human Chain to do good things, many people will get the needy things.
Note: This blog written very long ago but thinking about the matureness of my ideas regarding this and waiting for right time to post this.

Netware Vs(And) Linux

'm a Novell guy. From the title of this post and 'm being a Novell guy, you might have guessed that I enjoyed both the flavors. In this post, I will just try to put some ideas/points that I know about them.
For people new to Netware, here is brief description on it.
Netware - its full name is Novell Netware. It is:
- Non preemptive
- Can be loaded on a very low end machine
- Callback functions that need to be executed will be added to Worker Threads which are maintained by OS
- Processor will be allocated to worker threads to execute the work
Guyz, please correct if any mistakes.
And regarding linux, every one knows. It is preemptive and uses LRU to allocate processor to jobs.
Now, we need to decide when a particular OS can be selected.
As Netware is non preemptive, processor will be executing your work until you block yourself for some input or network packets or yield yourself to release the processor. So, it will be the best to use for servers as the processor will be executing your work and you can yield whenever you want. Also, because of this, we can overcome the unnecessary overhead of waiting to acquire semaphores to enter critical sections. As the Netware can be loaded on very low end machines, even, a low end machine can work as servers where as in the other OS case, you can't think of even loading it.
For general purpose computers, linux will be the best as the response of the programs will be good. And, for servers, if high end machines can be used which is the usual case, linux works great than Netware. If your machine is multi processor and core ones, we need to acquire semaphores to enter critical sections even in Netware. So, once you move to high end machines with multi processor and core ones, Linux should do better than Netware.
Netware can be used as clusters on low end machines as servers, so that, this cluster can be used in fault tolerance, load balancing etc. So, this can be used in distributed systems where the things are duplicated, fault tolerance is needed. So, can be used in distributed file systems like GFS.

There was a lot of investment or we can say over investment at the times of 1996 in lying up the optical cables under the seas because of the Telecommunications Act and due to the taught that Internet Boom grows indefinitely. Demand was there, but, as anything too much is harmful, similar way, here also, due to over investment, they became useless as its not so increasing as time goes on. Once they are laid and no one can remove them, it lead to cheap telephone calls and after that, dot com bubble, Y2K and other past events like India's brain drain, new Finance Laws by Dr.ManMohan Singh helped it to emerge as the back office for US within a short period of time.
After that, again within few years, it became not just as the place of back office but as the part of their offices. New enterprises, new entrepreneurship ideas helped India to emerge as the Key in the field.
Coming to present, US economic recession, Low fundamentals Stock markets, Economic and Political instability have bad effect on the next generation and also on India majorly, unless, they learn to go for new technologies or ideas. Just within a short span of one year, with India's currency becoming strong, impacted India's IT a lot. Won't that show that still we are dependent? Recent news about cut in salaries won't leave a mark that shows we are still dependent? Isn't look like the over investment on optical fibre in 1996 is getting repeated with IT replacing optical fibre. Sure, looks like, there is going to have a burst or end to the upward trend of salaries. So, shouldn't we learn new things or implement new ideas? If so, what are they?
Please correct me if I'm wrong or not aware of some more facts.

Methodology/Issues of Blogger's CAPTCHA - Updated

CAPTCHA - Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. It is nothing but some word verification things that will be found on sites to avoid spam. The idea behind this is - people cannot script to post some data on to the sites unless they fill the text or data in the image they provided. Entered text along with the key will be sent to server for verification and it will permit the request if the entered one matches with the one in the database.

Just found by some browsing, that eBay's captcha can be easily cracked and can be filled with the script. There is an extension for that. I'm sure they may not be reading the image and filling it. They might have found some sort of defect in their implementation.

Just found some on my own on blogger captcha. Blogger captcha's server will generate a key and associate the data that is kept in the image with the key and stores the pair in its database. When the user fills the data and do the submit, server will receive the user filled in data and the key. Server will compare them with the data stored in the database for verification. Once verified, it will be delete that pair from its database. If I get some key data pair and won't use them i.e., don't submit the data to server, we can use it at any time. This part I tested. So, by script, if I'm able to have many submit's to the server very fast using the same key data pair before the server deletes them from its database, we can spam the server with the messages. But, I'm not able to test this with script to see whether I can use the same key data pair multiple times. I want to say that I want to take advantage of the minute time difference between handling the submit request and deleting the key data pair from database.

Also, one more thing here is - by giving the GET requests continously to the server, it will just keep generating the key data pairs and will store them in its database. By doing this, its database of key data pairs can become full. But, I signed saying I won't run scripts on this server, so, I can't run script on this site :)

"World Is Flat" and "What is Freedom?"

Did Columbus discovered America? I want to say he discovered it by mistake. He wanted to reach India through different way on the command of his kings to flourish or preach their religion and also to find out what Indians and their wealth are upto. But, he reached America and thinking that he found India, went to his kingdom and announced that he discovered World is Round. This was the starting pages of World is Flat book. Nice one. I liked it very much. I recommend everyone to read it. I got inspired by that book or I can say that my dreams just became stronger or became concrete or they got some base by reading this book. It makes you to see the (past, present and future) world differently.

And one more random point I want to put is - What is Freedom? I feel it is something which we cannot explain unless we experience the bonded labor. This word along with some other words good, suitable are all just perceptions, and doesn't have exact meaning. I think even the word Friendship is just perception and doesn't have any meaning as such for it. This point may be some junk. You can overlook this.

I need one clarification on one thing: There is an article in that saying a gold mines person posted the data related to his gold mines and posed a challenge to the world "Who ever best models these gold mines and find where the gold is will be awarded with some huge money". Second Life for Me

I don't know what happened in the starting or I don't know where to start. But, point here is - I just got skidded by mistake into a long tunnel with lot of zig zags. Sound of the people outside the tunnel is just going fainter and fainter. I was totally afraid, sweating and I was completely nervous. Then, the darkness also just getting thicker and thicker. I was not able to see the things. This is happening little bit later to sound because light travels faster than sound. I'm still just skidding through the tunnel. I closed my eyes, as not dare enough to see what is going to happen for me. It became little bit difficult even to breath also. But, it was not that worse. I just opened my eyes and saw everything dark. I'm not able to see anything. I was shouting for help. Totally got afraid. Then, suddenly, from somewhere, I heard my friend's voice saying "What happened?" "Don't shout" "Don't get panic". Then, some light ray hit my eyes and just found that I'm in the house just stood on my bed and shouting (not very loudly). He gave me one glass of water and I slept again. Then, I got nice sleep as I got nice dreams.

I found quotes are little bit tricky and confusing in Shell Script. Below is about them got from freeos.com
"Double Quotes" - Anything enclose in double quotes removed meaning of that characters (except \ and $).
'Single quotes' - Enclosed in single quotes remains unchanged.
`Back quote` - To execute command.
Also, it looks like interpreter converts all the "Double Quotes" into 'single quotes' and again executes this resulted one with single quotes. You can get this from the output if you have "#!/bin/sh -vx" as first line in your script.

Customized Newspaper

Blogging after a long time.. had been a little busy, I guess, these times.. ok..
Point is - again, looks like, one of my old junk idea is patented by Google :(
It is Google Magazine. I was thinking to have a newspaper in the way the reader wanted, i.e, based on his interests. Some may think business news should come in main paper and some may think sports should come in the main paper. Finally, wanted to say is - newspaper/magazine should be in the interest of the end user i.e., the reader.
They gave the caption as "Customization of Content and Advertisements in Publications.” They covered a lot in their patent like revenue in ads etc.
I just got this idea and mailed myself to work on it before 2005 July itself, but, never done it :( One problem you can see here is - printing. Google guyz patented it in 2006. I think they don't want to make it as a product. I guess - they want to enjoy the royality.
Whatever it may be, once again, I lost my chance, that too, to Google itself. I don't know whether I should feel happy or not.
One qn - can I ask royalty from Google by showing that mail? Waiting for responses

Nice movies that I watched

Watched 2 nice movies in the recent days - "Happy Days" and "Aakali Raajyam" - both are telugu movies :)
"Happy Days" - all about the college days. Haa man, awesome movie.. Nice fun filled one. How the ragging and how the friends will be moving and the fun moments between them and of course LOVE also are shown in the movie (many more fun scenes are there). But, I expected still more fun scenes in classrooms other than LOVE.
Totally, different from the above one is - "Aakali Rajyam" - Kamal Hasan's old movie in K.Balachander's direction. Ultimate piece of his creation - showing the problems faced by people searching for jobs (I hadn't mentioned all here). In that, there was one conversation, as,
A: Don't you have lunch?
B: We will have it once in a while.
What a heart touching one right! There are many such scenes and many communist related dialogues. Lot of problems they will be facing by him
But, I guess, its not the case now a days. Atleast, I can say it reduced a lot. Not that much unemployment, but still a lot. May be because of this, after watching the "Happy Days" movie, we prepared one more story saying "Jolly Days" - the next 4 years after B.Tech like the accommodation at the time of searching for jobs, attending interviews, initial days in office, facing the manager, house owners, going for trips, and some helping the family and finally entering the marriage phase etc.. (I hadn't mentioned a lot here) Aren't they jolly days if you got a right bunch of people around you - starting from your roommates, owners, office colleagues, your team, manager.. hmm.. and girl friend too
But, it is this bunch of people's responsibility to consider country's growth, involving in socialistic activities, inflation and everything and at the same time, enjoying :)

How can this happen? - regarding memory

This article throws light on some memory related use cases. Here, memory and use cases are not computer related terms. They are related to medical field. A lady (use case), as mentioned in that article, can remember each and every frame of her life starting from 11 years age to till now. Now, she is just 85 years young. And one more (other use case) cannot remember anything for long time. Once he wakes up and had breakfast, he will go to bed. Then, again, he will doubt whether he had breakfast or not after woke up, and so, he will have it again. One more point here is - he doesn't remember that he have some memory problem. One more guy after went to hospital with some problem with the brain, that doctor done some experimental treatment as drilling holes above his eyes and etc.. the result was like "he lost some of his memory". This took me to some spells in Harry Potter like "OBLIVIATE". Good. Nice article - worth to go through

Semantic Web - a nice one. If you allow it, it will collect the information from the places you are visiting and also abt the people taking information from your site and organizes it. It looks to be helpful, isn't it? The product called as Twine. Looks like there is something called as Semantic Web Standards where these type of applications need to follow..
Oh man.. they are using natural language processing algorithms to extract key information from the data you provided. Good Stuff!
And Apple new OS review is here. They are mentioning "Time Machine" as one of its great feature. Is it so? I don't feel. And after that there are some features like parental controls and other junk.. (This is just my impression over that) But, I bet that their UI things might have got improved a lot. One more link related to that is here

An awesome article here with brilliant and mindblowing idea. Unable to believe that it is possible to teach a blind person to see with his tounge. Awesome one - connecting electrodes of a camera to the tongue. Here, this electrodes generate a sensation on the toungue with the help of picture captured by camera, and the tongue actually sends the signals to brain making him to see it.
It helps mankind a lot. Its a boon for human kind and specially for blind people who are in depression and can't see and enjoy the beauty of the world. Ofcourse, there are great people who can visualize the things in the better way compared to the things really exists and who are happy and intelligent than the people who can see.

This was my doubt "How Google Maps the World? What its database? What it do?". Found a nice article on this here. These are from that article:
..These images, which are shared by Google Maps, are actually a combination of aerial photos and satellite imagery--and a lot of postprocessing...
Looks like nothing database as such. Atleast for the current earth positions, it won't use any database. It uses the combination of aerial photos and the images from DigitalGlobe, the company that supplies Google's satellite photos, and do the image processing on them. May be, it need to use some spatial databases to store these and get them again whenever needed.

My Xperiences with nOvels

Thought of reading novels, to increase my vocabulary. But, my first attempt made me a Boring Chemistry Lecturer. Its because my first novel was "Arrow Of Time". It went like a semester course for me. Finally, stopped reading it.
Somehow, I got Harry Potter - 3 from my friend and read few pages of it. I became big fan of that. I bought the first 2 books and completed them within 2 weeks. I liked them very much. All the time, the characters were roaming in my mind. ('m usually of that kind where the things will be there in my mind roaming. May be same case with many). I just LOVED them. I think - it increased my communication skills, increased my vocabulary too. (I will try to use them in my blogs)
I was under impression that how people can read novels instead of reading technical books. Now, I got to know why people read novels - it increases the visualizatin power, vocabulary, thinking capacity and communication skills ofcourse. But, any thing exceeding limits will hurt and cause problems. So, Happy Reading nOvels to All :)
I will put some of my favourite phrases from that book in my next blogs :)

Changing the format of the coredump file name

When any program crashes, it dumps core. File name format of the core that gets created can be controlled using sysctl.
One way is: sysctl -w "kernel.core_name_format=/coredumps/%H-%N-%P.core"

In the traffic

Today, I missed Novell bus and took the BMTC bus. It was totally fun in the traffic today. I guess - people's problem in the traffic is not only that they are reaching late to their destinations, but there are some more I guess. Some I feel and some I read from their feelings are like
- if the person find that vehicles in his lane are not moving, he will be very much disappointed and will be scolding the driver like why this fellow is driving like this? what happened to this driver's lane only while other lanes moves fast :) And, when his lane is not moving and if driver takes other lane and if the first lane moves naa, gone case, he will be very very disappointed
- more over than this, they feel disappointed that other lanes are moving. and if his lane moves and crosses some other vehicles in other lanes, he will be the happiest.
And, also, he feels down because the vehicle stopped. Its not moving. So, we can have some sort of mechanism where people in vehicles feel that his vehicle is moving and we will close all the windows so that he can't see outside world :)
But, still, we won't solve the problem that he is reaching his destination late. But, he can be made mentally satisfied.

Google looks like trying to improve its page ranking algorithm - by penalizing and awarding some points to sites based on their behaviour. Page ranking usually depends on how many incoming links are there to your page and what's their ranks. Looks like in latest algorithms, people found some loophole and it is properly expalined here. Abt Tomcat and Comparision between that and my project

These two classes (HttpServerRequest and HttpServerResponse) are also called as Servlets (as far as I know) ( Don't bother about terminology :) )
So, the following things happen:
1. You receive a request from browser
2. Handle it using HttpServerRequest API's (Don't worry, that request from browser comes as HttpServerRequest object to you)
a. Here, you can get all the headers from the request
b. You can get the POSTed data also if it is POST request
c. I don't know abt HTTPS related things. For this also, API's should be available
3. Now, analyze the request and make the response using HttpServerResponse API's. This is the data that will be sent to browser
a. Here, you can add the headers that you need to send to browser
b. Can add the data part of the HTTP protocol stack
4. That's it. You implemented one webserver

Just this much is tomcat. My project is atleast double the size of this one.
My project is 'Proxy'. In my project also, we have HttpServerRequest and HttpServerResponse classes. These will be used to handle the request coming from browser and to send the response to browser respectively. As 'm 'proxy', we don't have the data that need to be sent to webserver. So, we need to have similar classes that sends this request to webserver and handles the response that comes from webserver.

So, my project is at least double the size of tomcat, right?
Over this, we have much other work to do. Need to change the request that will be sent to webserver and also need to change the response that will be sent to browser.
So, mine is a nice one to learn.... right?

This site is very cool. It zooms almost every village of India. I was very excited, happy ( and :-( also) to look at this. And, this allows you to mark the places also. Hats off to the creator.... I came to know about this from my colleague.
I just have a doubt - what is the backend database used for these type of sites? how the mapping will be there from this database to the one that we view on browser? I just have a very high level answer for this - Spatial Database

Google Custom Search

This blog is not related to the functioning of Google Custom Search at all. I landed at this Google Custom Search after visiting my friend's blog. Formats of the annotations that it supports caught my eye. It allows to upload a file that have the url's in some format and when you give any query, it searches in that url set.
Looks like this is useful in the project which I'm currently working to configure the rewriter profile. This may help me in explaining one of the junk idea I have.

Abt Tomcat and Comparision between that and my project

Note: This may not be useful for those who know abt Tomcat.
Had a small discussion in my room with my friends. They are working on jsp's, servlets and tomcat. They were asking qn's like - on what requests, tomcat won't support redirection? how to set that header? and how to do the redirections etc.... I was not knowing abt tomcat previously. By listening at those qns, I got some idea on that. Here is a small update for those who doesn't know what is tomcat.
Its nothing but a server which can be used to implement webservers. It will receives request coming from the browser and allows the following things to be done by programmer on that request:
- to analyze the received request's headers (HttpServerRequest class will help us)
- to make the response for browser based on that (HttpServerResponse class will help us)

Memory Related issues detection tool

Since last 3 to 4 days, I hadn't done even a single defect fix. Time was getting consumed in reviews, meetings and investigations. In the last 3 days, I was getting tired too much. Finally, found the reason for that - I was not hearing to Music last 3 days. Ok, this blog is to explain some tool that I learnt today in detecting memory issues like leaks, corruptions, heap usage etc....
It is MemoryScape. Its a good tool. This can be attached to the running process, or the core that got generated or the new program that to be started.
First, faced problems in attaching this to my binary file - as my binary file not generated using the libraries provided by this tool. Finally was able to do by using LD_PRELOAD environment variable.
But, leaks reporting is not happening. That tool provides some so's. At the time of linking, it makes any fork or malloc or free calls to its functions and then it tracks them. And, then, internally, they call the original functions.

My HD was reaching 100% usage now and then. So, I want to find large files in my box and delete them. I don't know scripting. Google made me to reach here.
find / -type f -size +20000k -exec ls -lh {} \; | awk '{ print $9 ": " $5 }'
In some linux boxes, we may need to change the parameter $9 for print as $8 or something else

"Street View" in "Google Maps"

New "Street View" in Google Maps is an idea which have both the faces. It frowns people as it peeps into their privacy. And on the other side, we can't stop ourselves admiring its technology and idea.
Google made contract with Immersive for licencing the idea of taking 360-degree street level images.
Vans are there roaming in the streets that captures the photos in different angles (I think somewhere I read it as 11 angles). This link explains about the SICK device used in the vans. The real time challenge is the image processing system where it collects all these images and give a proper images to the viewer. Somewhere, I read that they are using Nikon DLSR cameras.

Split Pannel - Xn for Firefox

I don't know, but, somehow I like these extensions very much (may be becz they are very smart). I got introduced to these by Ramki (my buddy at Novell). Today, while Googling, thought of some extension for browser that splits it like 'vi's split or vsplit' command does, so that, instead of opening every link in new tab and close them again one by one, we can have it in the same screen but divided. Looks like this "Split Pannel" extension will do that work. I installed it but yet to look how it works. For this, I need to close my browser but I rarely do this (ofcourse, I have the "session manager" extension to firefox which will open all my closed tabs at a time).
I guess this "Split Pannel" should work and solve my issue (its not a big issue, but, still an issue) :)
Too much, in a single day, I wrote 2 blogs. Ofcourse, this what usually happens, afterwards, I won't blog for many days. Tomorrow, I will blog on Google Maps.

Microsoft Surface

Looking at the Microsoft Surface, felt very astonished. I was thinking what and all different styles of algorithms - Surface computing, Geometrical algorithms, Ubiquitous computing etc - they should have implemented for this. Thinking of the work that I'm doing now - felt very bad and embarassed. Ofcourse, I'm in networking field - but I don't think I'm implementing latest things in this space also. ('m too bad that I don't have idea wats happening in this field). Still hanging over the (g)old HTTP protocol (ofcourse, https and other network protocols also). But, this is my level and I will improve myself.
Watever it is, this product from Microsoft is good (usually, this is not the case with Microsoft - my personal view). Hats off to Microsoft for this. Let us see what happens in the future - there is long road ahead....

I don't trust these dosha's watever there in my last post. I know about myself very much than anyone else. Nowadays, I am accepting negative comments from people. Previously, I was not so. Good improvement :)
